Mill-Rose 100th Anniversary


It all started 100 years ago when Victor H. Miller purchased a confectionery store on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio. From that very modest beginning The Mill-Rose Company has grown to become the largest manufacturer of twisted wire brushes. Join us in celebrating this impressive milestone as we begin our second century of brushmaking excellence.

The Mill-Rose Company was founded by Victor H. Miller who purchased a confectionery store on east side of Cleveland (Wade Park area). Miller also produced wire postcard racks and displays that led to a contract to make percolator brushes for the Osborn Manufacturing Company. From this modest beginning Mill-Rose has grown to become the largest manufacturer of twisted wire brushes.

1925

Miller closed confectionary operations to specialize in manufacturing brushes. Moved manufacturing operations to 79th and Platt Avenue.

1930

Moved manufacturing to 65th Street and Curtiss in Cleveland.

1934

Mill-Rose manufactured cleaning brushes for the electric shaver industry. Started making specialized brushes for pottery and paint industries.

1940

Received first lend-lease contract for rifle cleaning brushes. By end of WWII, Mill-Rose produced 35,000,000 brushes.

1945

Moved manufacturing to 59th Street and Euclid in Cleveland, OH.

1950

Mill-Rose introduced the Brite-Bore line of gun cleaning brushes, rods, swabs, etc.

1958

Strong demand for Clean-Fit brushes and accessories by the plumbing, heating, and cooling industry led to the formation of Clean-Fit Products, a division focused on the PHC markets.

1960

Mill-Rose facility in Mentor, Ohio

1965

Moved to a larger facility (30,000 sq. ft.) at present location on Tyler Blvd. in Mentor, Ohio. Employed approximately 85 people, who each manufactured between 2,500 to 3,500 brushes daily. Manufacturing now encompasses 60,000 square feet.

1970

Mill-Rose Laboratories established to serve the medical device industry with medical brushes and wire forms used in gastrointestinal and bronchial applications.

1972

Clean-Fit Products introduced the 4-in-1 brush, an immediate success with contractors and wholesalers.

1977

Mill-Rose Laboratories moved to a new, expanded facility (office and sales warehouse) at 7310 Corporate Blvd., Mentor, OH.

1980

Clean-Fit Products moved to expanded 70,000 square foot sales distribution center in Mentor.

1990

Manufacturing/distribution center in Mexico

1991

Mill-Rose established manufacturing/distribution center in Mexico shortly before NAFTA.

Late 1990s

Mill-Rose introduced a broad selection of PTFE thread seal tape, differentiating by application/quality.

Soft-Twist fitting brush introduced with easy-grip, soft handle.

2002

Power-Deuce multi-function brush introduced to clean the inside of fittings and.

2005

Mill-Rose recognized as partner in Space Shuttle’s reusable solid rocket (RSRM) program by ATK Thiokol and NASA. Mill-Rose brushes used extensively during RSRM production and refurbishment.

2007

Blue Monster brand (and trade character) introduced with PTFE tape product launch. Immediate demand for Blue Monster products led to the expansion of the Blue Monster product line.

2010

Mill-Rose 100th Anniversary

2012

Mill-Rose introduced Blue Monster Industrial Grade Thread Sealant in formulas with and without PTFE.

2017

Mill-Rose expands Blue Monster product line to include 75-plus SKUs. Gondola merchandisers increase sales at hardware retailers and Home Center stores.

2019

Mill-Rose celebrates its centennial anniversary and 100 years of serving satisfied customers.
